A retrospect developed around the theme of Independence Photo by Jude Anogwih, 2010 In celebration of the Centre for Contemporary Art, Lagos’ 3 year anniversary, artists who have engaged with the centre over the last three years have been invited back to interpret their experience with CCA around the theme of Independence. Artists were given the gallery space as a studio from 3rd – 17th December to develop and present a body of work, with one restriction, work produced must be Green. Artists selected work with a variety of medium including; painting, photography and video art and were provided with materials from which to develop the work. The resulting exhibition draws from their various artistic backgrounds and collaborative efforts to present independence through the eyes of contemporary Nigerian artists. :: Call for Curators :: Guest Curator Project 2011-2012 Program Action Art Actuel [AAA] is putting out a call to exhibition curators. For a third year, AAA is making its spaces available to a curator for a series of 5 exhibitions, enabling him/her to play a crucial role in determining AAA’s 2010-2011 programming. In doing so, AAA hopes to support innovative curatorial practices and the dialogue surrounding them. Furthermore, a series of exhibitions, residencies, on-site and off-site events will run parallel to the programming The curator will have the mandate to present a series of five exhibitions on a theme of his/her choice. The proposed program may include 1 or 2 residency projects for a 6 to 8 week period of research and production. We also encourage performance elements that may be combined with the opening of certain exhibitions. The event would feature an exhibition by veterans, pros and amateur makeup artistes in Diaspora and from abroad, showcasing their works; while the best blend of classical music by renowned soloists / orchestra and rib cracking jokes by stand-up comedians will spice up the day.

Sign Up for the Street Photography Now Project

Each Friday from 1 October 2010 a new Instruction will be issued by one of the photographers featured in Street Photography Now. This will appear on the front page of this website, and be sent out by email. To receive the weekly Instruction by email, send a message to signup@photonet.org.uk with SPNP in the subject header. You can join at any time. You may upload one photograph per Instruction to the Street Photography Now Project Flickr Group. You may respond to as many Instructions as you want. We are looking for candid photographs taken in the stream of everyday life. Your photographs should demonstrate an understanding of the history and practice of street photography – you can stretch or even break the unwritten rules of the genre, but you should be aware of them first. It may help to read the introduction to Sophie Howarth and Stephen McLaren’s book Street Photography Now.
