In collaboration with Alliance Francaise (French Cultural Centre), Terra Kulture (a Nigerian Cultural Centre) and GINUO SHOP, La dong Makeup and Finishing Academy presents “Roots”, the 4th Edition of The Nigeria Makeover Show to celebrate Nigeria’s 50th Independence Anniversary through creativity in epic makeup, to promote the richness and diversity of the Nigerian arts & culture.

The event would feature an exhibition by veterans, pros and amateur makeup artistes in Diaspora and from abroad, showcasing their works; while the best blend of classical music by renowned soloists / orchestra and rib cracking jokes by stand-up comedians will spice up the day.

Jay-Z tore it up at Glastonbury on the weekend, silencing critics such as Noel Gallagher who proceeded to rubbish Jay-z’s selection as the headliner. I read and laughed as people wrote into London papers saying how s**t Jay-Z was. The little downstairs dancefloor swells with smiling, sweating men and women fusing hip-hop dance moves with a funky sort of djembe. The women show off enormous afros, tiny t-shirts, gaps in teeth; the men those incredible torsos unique to and common on African coastlines. The whole scene speaks of the Cultural Hybrid: kente cloth worn over low-waisted jeans; ‘African Lady’ over Ludacris bass lines; London meets Lagos meets Durban meets Dakar. Even the DJ is an ethnic fusion: Nigerian and Romanian; fair, fearless leader; bobbing his head as the crowd reacts to a sample of ‘Sweet Mother’.
